Julia Aguilera Rodriguez

Julia is a Research Assistant at the University of Geneva’s Institute for Environmental Sciences (ISE), working on the subjects of climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction (DRR), with a particular interest in mountain regions and the implementation of Nature-based Solutions (NbS).
Julia earned her Master’s degree in Environmental Sciences from the University of Geneva in 2022, specializing in Climate Impacts. By studying real-world examples, her work explores how social, cultural, and institutional factors, including governance, shape the success of climate adaptation efforts and influence how communities respond to the distinct impacts of climate change.
Since joining ISE in 2021, Julia has contributed to several major projects, including Adaptation at Altitude (A@A), PHUSICOS, and The HuT. During the first phase of A@A, she played a key role in developing a global online database showcasing successful mountain climate adaptation initiatives, curating and disseminating knowledge on good practices from around the globe. Currently, as part of The HuT project, she is researching innovative policy and governance approaches to enhance multi-risk DRR, particularly through NbS. In the second phase of A@A, she is assessing the effectiveness and long-term sustainability of several mountain adaptation initiatives. These assessments span mountain regions worldwide, including the Andes, Hindu Kush Himalayas, South Caucasus and East Africa.
