Maria Sabogal joined the Institute for Environmental Sciences and the Department F.-A. Forel at the University of Geneva as a Ph.D. student in February 2025. She is part of a multidisciplinary research group working at the intersection of climate science, energy systems, and data science, under the supervision of Dr. Gregory Giuliani, Prof. Martin K. Patel, and Prof. Markus Stoffel. Her research project is entitled “Climate Change Impacts on the Hydrological System and Strategies for the Energy System (HYSEN)” and focuses on assessing the impacts of climate change on the hydrological system of the Rhône River and its implications for the energy sector.

Maria holds a background in environmental sciences and geomatics. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering from Universidad Libre of Colombia and later completed her Master’s degree in Environmental Sciences at the University of Geneva. Before starting her Ph.D., she worked on geospatial data analysis, database optimization, and energy efficiency projects. Additionally, she has conducted scientific research on greenhouse gas fluxes in the Arctic Ocean and has experience in teaching and environmental project coordination.
